Small Ensemble Concert

The middle and high school bands are presenting a different kind of program on Friday, March 6, during a mid-semester performance. Instead of the entire band playing together in a large group, the students and band director Elizabeth Taylor have created several small ensembles. The beginning band will open the concert. The public performance will be in the school gym at 6:30 PM. There is no admission cost.

“This means that the students become so much more independent in playing their own parts for the songs. In a group of three or four players, it is crucial for each student to be able to play their part with confidence and strength to keep the song going,” explained Mrs. Taylor.

In addition to learning large group pieces they will perform later in the semester, the band students are devoting time during and outside of class to preparing the small ensemble music.

“We are working on listening skills to help in hearing when the parts come together properly. In some cases, the selection of music is from the genre of classical type music standards for instrumentalists.  Some songs are familiar tunes from Disney movies or other songs that are familiar,” noted Mrs. Taylor.
