Polar Plunge Team

Community Involvement

Chatham Charter has supported the local Polar Plunge that benefits Special Olympics North Carolina for many years. It is sponsored by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. The 2026 event is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Seaforth Beach, Jordan Lake State Park. The opening ceremony will be at 11:00 AM, and the team “plunge” will be at noon.

Over the years Chatham Charter teams and team members have been recognized for being some of the highest money raisers of all participants. The participation of the school community has been instrumental in exceeding goals. One of the 2026 fundraising efforts gives K-8 students a special privilege. They can help the school raise money by making a donation that will allow them to wear a hat during the school day. The donation options are $2 per day or $10 for all seven days. A second fundraiser in partnership with the PTSA, I Scream! You Scream! We ALL Scream for Ice Cream!, makes ice cream available for K-12 students to purchase on February 11, 12, 17, and 19, until sold out. Choices include an ice cream sandwich, a cookies and cream cone, and a rainbow push-up.

Join the school team or contribute directly to the initiative through Chatham Charter’s Polar Plunge webpage.
