Chatham Charter Senior Elphie Spillman has been selected as one of 75 recipients of UNC Chapel Hill’s prestigious 2024 Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Those selected not only come from across the nation, but internationally as well. Spillman is the first Chatham Charter student to be a recipient.
“We’re incredibly proud of Elphie’s many accomplishments that have led to this achievement. She dedicates her very best to everything she undertakes and will undoubtedly well represent the Morehead-Cain Program,” said Chatham Charter College Liaison Rynn Nicks, who assisted Spillman during the application process.
The Morehead-Cain is a merit scholarship that was the first of its kind in the nation. Spillman receives a four-year, fully funded experience at UNC Chapel Hill. The Morehead-Cain Program also offers its recipients a multitude of opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting including an international gap year, summer enrichment, funding for special projects, and study abroad.
