Knights of the Roundtable

Knights of the Roundtable is a new student advisory team in the 2024-2025 school year that gives students an increasingly active voice in many aspects of school life. Over the summer Principal Tripp Crayton put out a call for any interested students to volunteer to participate. Since Chatham Charter has a wide age range of students as a K-12 school, Knights of the Roundtable meetings are divided into two groups, one for grades 5-8 and the other for high school. The 43 students meet monthly with administration and school counselors to foster collaboration, school spirit, and ideas. Examples of areas the student advisory team has delved into include establishing recognitions for K-12 academic honors, middle school bookbag storage racks, student-led high school morning announcements, shifting the date of Homecoming, student parking lot repairs, and exploring some small shifts in daily schedule logistics.

Administration has been excited with the Knights of the Roundtable in its inaugural year, bringing together voices from grades 5 through 12. This initiative continues to empower our students to play an active role in shaping their school experience by providing feedback, sharing ideas, and collaborating on school-wide enhancements and activities. Their insights have proved invaluable as we continue enhancing our vibrant school community.

Several students shared feedback from being part of Knights for the Roundtable.

“We have a voice where we can give our opinion and things may change.” Abigail, a 6th grader

“It makes me more confident in communicating with staff.” Emma, a 6th grader

“I like how this helps us learn how to communicate better so we’ll be better prepared for things like interviews in the future.” Lucy, a 5th grader

“I like how anybody can share and give their opinion.” Chloe, a 6th grader

“This club helps you come up with things on the fly” (speaking about skills learned in meeting discussions) Hunter, a 12th grader
