Beta Service: Above and Beyond

At Chatham Charter’s Senior Beta chapter meeting on January 8th, nine members were awarded with the Service Superstar Award. Recipients were Makenzi Allen, Camille Alston, Eli Christenbury, Ella Cross, Kynzie Jordan, Ashleigh Payne, Adam Reese, Jody Shreef, and Addilyn Talbott. They received a certificate and a special trading pin.
These students have gone above and beyond the service requirement of 20 hours per year for the Chatham Charter Beta chapter. They have already recorded at least 50 service hours during the summer and fall semester.
“I am very proud of these students and their dedication to service to others,” said advisor Amber Crossman.
How did they earn
In addition to Beta community service and school-sponsored events, the students also earned service hours in ways that had special meaning to them personally. They included:
• Makenzi Allen is a tutor, has volunteered at Recovery Celebration in Siler City, and participates in youth group service activities at her church.
• Camille Alston has logged many volunteer hours at Liberty Elementary School
• Eli Christenbury logs his service hours by working with the tech team at his church.
• Ella Cross spends time tutoring elementary students at Chatham Charter to earn service hours.
• Kynzie Jordan tutors in Chatham Charter elementary grades and participated in a 10-day mission trip on a reservation In South Dakota.
• Adam Reese spent most of his service hours in Puerto Rico assisting with hunger, homelessness, and poverty. The rest of his hours were spent helping his church set up and clean before and after Sunday service.
• Jody Shreef helped decorate a “haunted hall” at Bennett School around Halloween. She has also volunteered at some of the Knights summer sports camps.
• The majority of Addilyn Talbott‘s volunteer hours were with the Liberty Fire Department. She commented, “Any free time I have, or even after school, I go to the fire department to help out.”
• Ashleigh Payne designed and coordinated the Little Champs Day as Knights Family Weekend kicked off. She also organized the December trip to UNC Hospitals for Beta chapter officers to deliver donations for young patients.
