Awards and Honors: Chatham Charter Fall 2021 Athletics

Knights Athletics had an outstanding 2021 fall sports season. All varsity fall teams at Chatham Charter School in Siler City earned berths in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state playoffs. Three sports, cross country, women’s golf, and women’s tennis, advanced to the state championships. The Knights play in the 1A Central Tarheel Conference. Many student-athletes and teams earned honors and awards for their achievements. The Knights had 17 All-Conference players, two conference Players of the Year, and three Coaches of the Year, and one All-State runner.

Cross Country

The men’s cross country team finished second in the conference, third in the East Regional meet, and 14th in the NCHSAA 1A State Championship Meet. Senior Brandon McKoy ended his high school cross country career by finishing fourth in the State Meet.

Women’s Golf

In addition to winning two conference honors, sophomore golfer Mackenzie Crossman finished fourth in the East Regional meet and in 10th place in the NCHSAA 1A State Championship Golf Tournament.

Men’s Soccer

The Knights varsity men’s soccer team advanced into the first round of the state playoffs.

Women’s Tennis

The 2021 Knights women’s tennis team advanced through the dual team state playoffs, becoming East Regional Champion before ending its season in the state championship as runner-up. In the individual state playoffs, two individuals (Rebecca Brookshire and Emily Stecher) lost in the first round, but two Knights doubles teams advanced through regionals and into the state championship tournament. The team of Emery Eldridge and Elphie Spillman lost in the first round while the team of Lorelei Byrd and Ashlyn Hart won their first match and lost in the semi-final round.

Volleyball

The Knights varsity volleyball team was regular season champion and played in the first round of the state playoffs.
