Annual Spring Sing
The beloved K-5 Spring Sing took place on Wednesday, March 18, in the gym. Families were invited to attend one of the two performances, 8:15 or 9:45 AM. As always, the singers delighted audiences with songs, wearing spring colors for visual effect.
The annual Spring Sing at Chatham Charter started over 20 years ago. K-5 music teacher Julie Teague fondly recalled the first one in 2005 being held on the hill of the front lawn where the car rider line now is. The first performance in the gym was in 2009, and a grand finale dance began to be incorporated in 2011.
“Musical form and phrasing are common themes when learning all of our songs. These concepts are key during any kind of musical performance,” explained Mrs. Teague about notable music curriculum connections within the concert selections.

The 2026 program featured the following songs:
Kindergarten/1st grades
HELLO THERE, a welcome song in call and response form
JIG ALONG HOME, an old-fashioned animal hoe-down with each class singing one verse: Simple movements give each refrain a unique flair.
2nd/3rd grades
WHISTLE A HAPPY TUNE, from the musical The King and : The unexpectedly complex melodies made this song a bit of a challenge to learn.
THE KITE SONG, from the musical Mary Poppins: Imaginative movement brings this song to life.
4th/5th grades
MICHIE BANJO, derived from Creole music: This piece is self-accompanied using recorders and classroom percussion instruments.
A MILLION DREAMS, from the movie, The Greatest Showman: The challenge in this song is vocal range, as students have to keep their voices super light on the low bridge melody and soar on the refrain.
Combined Grades
SING, the unofficial theme song of Sesame Street: Mrs. Teague noted how it brings a sentimental tear to her eye.
Grand Finale
Sshhh, it’s a secret! You’ll have to come to find out!
