Success in College Classes
The Chatham Charter academic program builds to the upperclassmen years when juniors and seniors take dual enrollment, transferable college credits through the tuition-free North Carolina Career and College Promise (CCP). The rigorous program, paired with how Chatham Charter maximizes opportunities for its students to be able to take courses, sets the stage for highly motivated students to complete a CCP Pathway or a certificate. The majority of Chatham Charter eleventh and twelfth graders complete a Pathway by the time they graduate from high school. Some of the courses also satisfy state high school graduation requirements. Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) partners with Chatham Charter to offer a variety of classes through the program.
The majority of Chatham Charter students focus on a College Transfer Pathway that contains many general education courses they will need to complete a college degree. However, some students explore areas related to the skilled workforce through Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways. A few students take courses in both College Transfer and CTE Pathways.
During the 2024-2025 school year, Chatham Charter juniors and seniors took 508 college classes in two semesters. Their outstanding grades reflected the seriousness with which they took the rigors of the college coursework. The upperclassmen earned a C or better in 96% of the classes, with them earning an A or B in 86% of the classes.
Chatham Charter’s rigorous academic program prepares students to achieve at high levels. The school has a strong support system of staff and a commitment to maximize the Career and College Promise. In addition to academic skills, the students learn “durable skills” such as good organization, pacing, independence, self-advocacy, and study skills to bolster their confidence and success.
